These
collages were produced over a 2-year period during my 14-year stay
in Paris, France. I cut out blocks of time with nothing to do but
cut and paste, playing with words like objects, finding new meanings
by juxtaposing, combining and eliminating text and image. This free
flowing approach to the French language was only possible because
I am not French. My method, similar to the Surrealists, was simple:
collect French newspapers, journals and old revues, then cut images,
words, or parts of words and juxtapose them with new images/text.
The joy was to discover new meanings.
During my time in Paris, my collages and photos were exhibited in
France and my films/videos have garnered awards and distribution.
I conceived, shot, and produced Perry in his Garden, which was shown
at the Cinéma du Réel in Paris, France, the International Film Market
in Cannes, and is in co-distribution with the CNRS in Paris. |
